Renovations

The Grey Willows building has been thoughtfully renovated to better serve our community and visitors.

The updated layout now features individual rooms designed to house a variety of exhibits, each highlighting different aspects of Howard County’s history.

In addition, a dedicated media space has been created for showcasing videos and documentaries, offering the public an engaging way to experience history through film and storytelling.

In July 2025, the museum proudly hosted a memorable fundraiser on its grounds, bringing together history, art, music, and community.

The evening featured a powerful presentation by Carole Shelton of the State Historical Society of Missouri, who portrayed the lives of four African American women from Missouri before, during, and after the Civil War.

Guests also enjoyed live music from The Jeff and Noah Collective, a catered meal, and the opportunity to explore artist exhibit spaces.

Adding to the excitement, museum curator David Holman presented a special NASA exhibit, giving attendees a chance to experience history and science side by side.

The event highlighted the museum’s mission to preserve the past while creating engaging, educational, and inspiring experiences for today’s community.

Exhibits

Our inaugural exhibit, “Lt. Col. William S. Holman’s Contribution to the 1969 Apollo 11 Moon Landing,” shines a spotlight on Howard County’s remarkable connection to the NASA space program.

Created and presented by museum curator David Holman, this interactive display offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore local involvement in one of history’s greatest achievements.

The exhibit experience continues in the museum’s theatre with a showing of the film “Magnificent Desolation,” giving guests a chance to journey even deeper into the story of space exploration.

Together, the exhibit and film inspire pride in our community’s legacy while connecting Howard County to the broader history of discovery and innovation.
